Orbyte

System Overview

One of the most significant features of Orbyte is how the system defines subscriber access services. Each service is defined with a set of parameters providing the operator an optimal degree of freedom to create offerings. Parameters include:

  • Types of payment
  • Type of authentication
  • Access policy
  • Rating and pricing

System Architecture
Orbyte is based on a modular three layer architecture including a centralized service management system, an authentication, policy decision and roaming system, and access gateways. The modular architecture in combination with open interfaces makes it easy to integrate the system with the operators’ existing infrastructure such as customer management systems, legacy authentication frameworks and third party access controllers.

The Service Management System is the central part of the Orbyte system. It is a feature-rich, customer and service provisioning system including accounting and usage statistics.

The Authentication, Policy Decision and Roaming System handles all authentication requests from access gateways and makes policy decision based on credentials, service selection, location and – in the case of pre-paid solutions – amount of resources left.

The Access Gateways consist of a line of turnkey, high performance gateways for wireline and wireless access control with models supporting from very small hotspots to access environments with thousands of concurrent sessions.

The system can be deployed in a centralized or decentralized configuration depending on existing infrastructure architecture and scaling parameters.
