Birdstep Mobile Data Policy Engine (MDPE) 2.0 is a modern full-fleged policy controller that allows dynamic control and single point management of the mobile data network.

The Birdstep MDPE was designed specifically with today’s operators challenges in mind and offers an overall solution to make things such as real-time policy control of the mobile experience and price plans, efficient network utilization and easy introduction of 3rd party value-added services easy to achieve.

With the Birdstep MDPE the operator is given the capability to offer and manage tiered subscriptions with different quotas, throughput, and allowed traffic types which enables the operators to easily provide attractive add-on services and tailor-made subscriptions to their users.

Additionally, with the Birdstep MDPE the operator is able to expose both static and dynamic system resources to exploit the wholesale business opportunity with Service Providers, 3rd party value added services and MNVO partners. By providing interested parties with detailed information about the subscriber session the operator is able to find new revenue streams from mobile services. MVNO partners can even be provided with their own, restricted, access to the MDPE.

The operators are also able to truly optimize their network usage by alleviating the network of resource consuming logic that can be managed by the MDPE, for example the MDPE is able to produce all mobile data services on a single Access Point Name (APN).
