(Tampere 1st July 2008) Birdstep Technology ASA, the leading provider of secure seamless connectivity and mobility software for laptop, PDA’s and Smartphones, has received an order from Itä-Savo hospital district (ISSHP) in Finland. The contract covers the SafeMove Mobile VPN corporate license as a part of Fujitsu Services’ Patja IT infrastructure, which Fujitsu has delivered to the hospital district. The SafeMove product will be key component providing seamless and secure connectivity as well as access to corporate network regardless of time and place. Fujitsu Services will be responsible for network devices, management and services.
Itä-Savo hospital district has been entirely digital since the beginning of the year 2005. It means that information management of all centric operations has been paperless. The object was still to obtain a wireless, encrypted connection which would work outside the premises.
“With SafeMove technology the personnel of hospitals, clinics and health centres can be in real time contact with not only internet and email, but their information systems, e.g. patient records, laboratory results and statistics independent of time and place”, says Torbjörn Sandberg, CEO Birdstep Technology ASA.
In the background of the venture was an utilisation project of mobile technology, which was conducted by ISSHP’s information management unit together with home care personnel. The project confirmed that mobile technology enables organisation of completely new working methods. “The benefits gained through the time savings were remarkable. Time savings regarding next day’s work planning and waiting to get access to computers were at least 3,5 person-years,” says the head of Information Management Unit of ISSHP, Ari Pätsi. ”In addition to that, the use of real time information improved significantly the quality of customer service, because things could be taken care of during the same visit”, he continues. The service is about to expand also e.g. to the administration of the hospital district, veterinarian, emergency care and remote consulting.
