Birdstep wins new broadband service management contract with TeliaSonera. Wireless broadband access for free public Internet will be provided at pay-phone locations across Sweden within a radius of 150 meters

Oslo, 3 July - Birdstep Technology ASA, the leading provider of secure seamless connectivity and mobility software for laptop, PDA's and Smartphones, has received an order from TeliaSonera to deliver a broadband network as well as service management to Sweden's largest mobile broadband network for wireless LAN. The network will be built at thousands of pay-phones placed on highly attractive spots all over Sweden. Each pay-phone will provide wireless broadband network coverage within a radius of 150 meters. TeliaSonera estimates that those wireless access points will cover approximately half of the Swedish population.

The first phase that was launched 1 of July 2007, will enable all existing pay-phones in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö with mobile broadband access. The wireless LAN access zones will be open for the public and provide free Internet access in the vicinity of the pay-phones. The roll out of the network covering the additional pay-phones across Sweden will be completed the coming months.

“Birdsteps long industry experience and service management competence has been crucial for meeting the launch date of this project. Their dedication to meet our deadline has been really valuable for us.”, said Erik Hallberg, Head of Broadband at TeliaSonera Sweden.

“We are very proud of TeliaSoneras's trust in Birdstep Technology and our ability to deliver highly scalable world class service management systems for wireless broadband access, on time and according to expectations. With this we have built a foundation to grow and further develop our relationship with TeliaSonera, “said Petri Markkanen, CEO, Birdstep Technology
