Birdstep to extend its leading mobility and ease-of-connectivity product offering by adding support for the Windows Mobile platform
Oslo/Stockholm – May 19th, 2005 – Based on increasing demand from the operator and enterprise market, Birdstep Technology today announced the launch of a new initiative to bring the leading ease-of-connectivity and seamless mobility client to the Windows Mobile platform.
Birdstep Technology has followed very closely the development of the Windows Mobile platform that is gaining popularity and market share in the SmartPhone/PDA market, making it an important platform to support.
“Birdstep's well proven solutions currently running on Windows platforms will now be available on the Windows Mobile platform, opening a new channel for operators to launch mobile services that include both our unique ease of connectivity functionality and seamless mobility functionality,” says Stefano Holguin, VP of Marketing. “With this announcement we take the next logical step in meeting our existing customer demands, and staying on the leading edge in connectivity and mobility client solutions.”
The Windows Mobile client has been designed to meet the requirements of next generation Windows Mobile-based devices that feature both 3G and WiFi connectivity. Birdstep makes connectivity and mobility across multiple networks a truly simple and “mobile” experience. All features can be pre-configured and centrally distributed and upgraded to simplify operator and enterprise deployment. The product will feature Multi-OS and device support including support for IrDA and Bluetooth connectivity. The client will offer 'Always best' connection and automatic re-connection features as well as a complete set of functions such as automatic WiFi hotspot detection and login, with the objective of boosting user friendliness while preserving the standard way of operating Windows Mobile devices.
“In today's converged-network environment, it is a key requirement for operators to offer a complete mobile solution that can facilitate connection to a multitude of owned and partner networks,” said Jørgen Bredesen, CEO for Birdstep. “By offering our proven solution also on Windows Mobile, we enable operators to capture customers, reduce churn and provide new traffic-boosting services in a highly competitive market.”
