Birdstep Technology Introduces Small Footprint Database for Mobile and Embedded Platforms

RDM Mobile 4.0 Delivers Leading Edge Data Management Capabilities in the Industry's Most Compact and Cost Efficient Package

SEATTLE/OSLO – September 30, 2005 – Birdstep Technology (OSE: BIRD), world-leading developer of mobile, embedded and server based database technologies, today released an updated version of their RDM Mobile database system. The updated RDM Mobile 4.0 encapsulates five years of mobile and embedded database development and delivers innovation and efficiency in one small package.
Birdstep RDM Mobile 4.0 represents the latest in Mobile database technology, providing complex data management in a wide range of low cost mobile and embedded devices. RDM Mobile 4.0 is an update to the Birdstep RDM Mobile 3.0 database. However improvements allow the developer a shorter time to market and the ability to provide end-users with a failsafe and robust application.

This version contains major feature additions including In-Memory support, improved technology that allows a developer to run a database entirely in memory. RDM Mobile 4.0 gives developers the ability to bootstrap and flush memory images to and from a persistent storage device.

"RDM Mobile 4.0 has developed into very portable and low-cost mobile database solution with the goal of providing our customers the best tools, functionality, and productivity in a mobile database product," says Duncan Bates, Product Manager. "With the addition of change tracking support, true BLOB and VARCHAR support, and the use of either Duplicated or Referenced Index Segments, RDM Mobile 4.0 strengthens our ability to provide a compelling database product in the growing embedded and mobile database market."
