ProRail signs a Software License Agreement to use the IP Zone software in the SurfNet WLAN test bed platform in the Netherlands

IP Zone Software Used by ProRail

Oslo – March 30th, 2004 – CGE&Y and ProRail, together with several founding partners including SURFnet (Dutch nationwide ISP for the academic world), Twente University of Technology, and VolkerStevin (one of the largest Dutch construction companies), have established a consortium and over the past few months have built the `mobile broadband testbed`. In the coming year a number of both employee- and consumer-driven mobility solutions will be tested.

SURFnet was looking for the provision of large-scale high-bandwidth wireless data-connectivity as a service. The main focus is a common implementation of an Authentication and Authorization scheme (based on RADIUS). The main Access Technology is WLAN (IEEE 802.11b with 802.1X as Authentication and Authorization mechanism). Furthermore, aspects like seamless handover between WLAN and GPRS networks are very important.

Birdstep Technology is a technology contributor to the consortium with the Birdstep IP Zone software. Cap Gemini Ernst and Young (CGE&Y) is in charge of project leadership, installation and implementation.

”Birdstep is proud to have the IP zone product as part of this test bed for innovative solutions. This is one of the results of a successful partnership with Cap Gemini Ernst and Young Nederland B.V. (CGE&Y),” says Stefano Holguin, Birdstep Technology.
