Omnitel simplifies connectivity with the Alice Connection Manager client

Oslo/Stockholm – July 22, 2005 –Birdstep Technology ASA, the provider of leading mobility and connectivity client solutions, announced today that Omnitel, a member of TeliaSonera group in Lithuania has chosen the Alice Connection Manager (ACM) to provide the connectivity client solution that will cover their GSM, GPRS/EDGE, and WiFi networks. The deployment which offers the patented “one-click” connect solution is planned to be nationwide.

Omnitel required a solution that provided ease-of-connectivity functionality to the right cost. For this reason, Omnitel selected the solution based on the TeliaSonera connection manager with specific customization and localization to fit their local needs. The solution will provide one consistent, branded interface that works with all PC cards and phones available to the subscriber. It is based on the “one-click“ patented software that allows users to quickly and easily configure their mobile devices to access data services provided by Omnitel across their available wireless technologies.

The solution will be launched as soon as the product is ready for delivery from the engineering and quality assurance teams at Birdstep Technology in Stockholm.

The solution is targeted to the business segment and will include support for laptops and PDAs. The solution will support connectivity both through PCMCIA Cards and phones. The solution will be distributed to Omnitel customers on CDs. Omnitel's solution can support the same devices (phones and PC-cards) that is available today for TeliaSonera's Connect solution and will allow Omnitel's users to easily connect and access the Internet, send and receive SMS, launch their Cisco VPN solution and send and receive Email based on the email solution of their choice.

“The product's capability to provide support to both our required PCMCIA cards and handsets made Birdstep's ACM the obvious choice in enabling us to launch this attractive new service for our subscribers,” said Remigijus Staras, VP of Commerce at Omnitel.

“This contract confirms that our products can offer the functionality needed to the operator market. Omnitel required a solution that worked both on multiple cards but also handsets. They wanted a well-proven solution. Our solution, already deployed by TeliaSonera, offers the same branded solution on both PCMCIA cards and handsets, making it a future proof solution,” said Kristian Mets, VP sales from Birdstep Technology.
